Why donate tissues

The possibility of tissue donation becomes a great opportunity to contribute to the care of many patients and to rekindle hope in those suffering from serious diseases or whose lives are severely compromised.
More and more surgeons are choosing to use homologous tissues in their surgeries because there are numerous advantages, particularly for patients undergoing major reconstructive or reparative procedures.

The use of homologous tissues improves the quality of life, allowing the restoration of previously impaired function, and the thousands of people who benefit from a tissue transplant every year benefit from a significant reduction in rehabilitation time and a rapid return to normal activities.

The tissue donor

Tissue donors may be deceased persons whose death has been established in accordance with the law, or living persons whose tissues, intended to be ‘waste material’, are removed during surgery.

Rete trapianti

With the entry into force of Law 91/99, the network on organ and tissue removal and transplantation was organised, establishing dedicated figures to coordinate and manage all operations related to the complex activity.

Why a tissue transplant?

A tissue transplant improves the quality of life and in drastically compromised situations can become life-saving.

The possibility of minimising surgery without compromising the good results has made the use of homologous tissues a valid alternative to more traditional surgical techniques, allowing a reduction in rehabilitation time with a quick return to normal physical activity.

Bone Tissues

Bone tissue donation offers the possibility of restoring impaired mobility by reconstructing damaged limbs.

Ligaments and Tendons

The donation of ligaments and tendons enables the restoration of damaged joints after trauma or other pathologies.

Veins e Arteries

The donation of veins and arteries makes it possible to re-establish blood circulation, very often avoiding the amputation of limbs. Veins and arteries are also used in bypass surgeries.

Heart Valves

Donating heart valves means saving the lives of many children with heart defects or adults with valves whose function is impaired.

Placenta

With the donation of the placenta, its amniotic membrane is used to heal wounds in large burns, to treat ulcers, including those of the cornea or even in arthrosis.
